Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Owner/Therapist
International OCD Foundation Provider
Neurodivergent Practitioners Member
Licensed Mental Health Counselor/ Contract Therapist
My name is Melissa L. Hamblet and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and therapist licensed in the state of Florida. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Florida in 2008, and my Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida in 2016.
My passion for therapy began with my own lived experience as a neurodivergent, queer person navigating my way through the world. I aim to share my experience, strength, and hope with others. I am LGBTQ+ Affirming, sex positive, body positive, and racial justice allied. I believe in health at every size and am passionate about human rights and social justice.
I moved back to Gainesville in 2016 and live with my kiddo, my partner, and my three cats and dog- Edgar, Marshmallow, Priscilla, and Caesar! When I have down time, you will catch me with my family, working in my yard, relaxing outdoors, trying out new vegan cuisine, drinking boba, or finding something to learn about my special interests!
Since 2008, I have worked in the areas of mental health, medical social work, addictions treatment, and child welfare social services. I now work exclusively with adults, and I have found that counseling, specifically therapy with neurodiversity-affirming, person-centered, and Cognitive Therapy modalities (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Inference-Based CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT skills, Humanistic and Person-Centered Therapy). These approaches emphasize self-compassion and distance from our thoughts, and are beneficial for those experiencing difficulty managing their emotions, anxiety, OCD, social phobia, challenges related to autism and/or ADHD, as well as concerns with self-esteem, life adjustments, and relationship challenges.
We all are worthy and deserving of someone who we can trust and talk to about difficult emotions, symptoms, relationships, thoughts, and situations we are facing in our lives. My mission is to provide support to clients seeking to define and achieve balance in their life in the way that is important to them. I approach each therapy session in a warm, down to earth manner with a foundation of empathy, respect, and unconditional positive regard. I provide counseling from a non-judgmental position in an effort to encourage emotional healing and growth.
