My name is Melissa Hamblet I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and therapist in the state of Florida. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Florida and my Master of Social Work from the University of South Florida.
Since 2008, I have worked in the areas of mental health, addictions, and child welfare. I now work exclusively with adults, and I have found that counseling, specifically therapy with person-centered CBT approach and a focus on self-compassion, is beneficial for those experiencing difficulty with depression and mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, self-esteem, trauma, difficult life adjustments, and relationship challenges.
My passion for therapy began with my own lived experience as a neurodivergent person navigating my way through the world. I aim to share my experience, strength, and hope with others.
I am LGBTQ+ Affirming, sex positive, body positive, and racial justice allied. I believe in health at every size and am passionate about human rights and soc

I have lived in Gainesville since 2016, and enjoy spending time with my kiddo, partner, dog, cat, friends and family. When I have down time, you will catch me working on my paint by numbers, relaxing outdoors, trying out new vegan cuisine, drinking boba, or finding something to clean and organize!

Each of us needs someone who we can trust and talk to about difficult emotions, symptoms, relationships, thoughts, and situations we are facing in our lives. My mission is to provide support to clients seeking to define and achieve balance in their life in the way that is important to them. I approach each therapy session in a warm, down to earth manner with a foundation of empathy, respect, and unconditional positive regard. I provide counseling from a non-judgmental position in an effort to encourage emotional healing and growth.
How Does Therapy Work?
Therapy sessions typically are once per week and last between 45-55 minutes, which includes the time to make a plan for the following week and schedule the next appointment. Because sessions can be done via video, you can have your appointments where you are most comfortable, pajamas and all, just as long as you aren’t driving or outside of the state of Florida. In-person appointments are offered as well on Mondays and Fridays.
At the first appointment, I will provide you with a brief introduction to therapy. Over the first several sessions, we will complete an assessment where I will ask you questions about what has brought you to therapy, about your past experiences in therapy (both good and not so good) and also get general information about your life. I always tell clients that we will “skim the surface” of your life in these first several appointments. Keep in mind that you will only be asked to share as much as you are comfortable with. This information will be the foundation that the therapeutic alliance is built on, and we will use this to create goals for therapy. Therapy is a collaborative process, and the goals will be based on your needs, preferences and values, and how I can support you in feeling the way you deserve to feel.
Specialties:
I focus on providing therapy to individuals ages 18 or older who are experiencing concerns related to depression/mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, Autism, self-esteem, and difficult like transitions. Many of my clients have been impacted by trauma, work stressors, family stressors, or are having difficulty overcoming a breakup or significant loss.
I specialize in seeing working professionals, working parents, college students, those in early recovery from substance use, as well as those wanting to reduce alcohol usage. I approach all sessions from a non-judgmental position. I am LGBTQ+ and Neurodiversity Affirming and am supportive of all healthy non-traditional relationships and lifestyles.
Therapy modalities are tailored to each individual client’s needs. I take a warm, down to earth approach and also utilize the below therapeutic interventions during appointments:
Using In-Network Insurance: At this time, I am in-network with United Healthcare, Oscar Health, Oxford, Cigna, UMR, Meritain Health, Blue Cross Blue Shiels of Massachusetts, and Aetna. I use a company called Headway to help with the above insurance claims. You will set up an account with Headway, and they will process your insurance policy to let you know exactly what you will owe based on your insurance policy, per session. Payment for sessions will go directly through Headway as well. If you are ready to schedule using your insurance, please go to https://headway.co/providers/melissa-hamblet and schedule there.
Using Out-of-Network Insurance: For individuals who have insurance that is not listed above, I am happy to provide you with what is called a Superbill after each appointment. You will then submit the Superbill to your insurance carrier for potential reimbursement. I recommend that you review your health insurance policy and also give your insurance company a call to find out if you have behavioral health benefits and out-of-network coverage and if so, what they reimburse, and whether you have a deductible or coinsurance as well. I recommend doing this prior to scheduling so you can determine if you will be reimbursed. Please check with your insurance to confirm that telehealth is a part of your insurance coverage/benefit.
Self-Pay, or No Insurance: No insurance, or no behavioral health coverage? No worries! The cost at this time for a 45-55 minute therapy session without insurance is $125.00.
All payments will be made via credit/debit card at the time of the appointment.

Good Faith Estimate: You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
How do I schedule?
Are you interested in using insurance? If so, I use a company called Headway to assist with verifying insurance coverage, collecting copays, and billing insurance claims.
I also have a client portal, and this is what is used to access your secure telehealth appointments, complete new client forms, and view upcoming appointments. https://www.therapyportal.com/p/seekingbalance/
If you are ready to schedule using your Avmed, Oscar Health, Oxford, Cigna, UMR, UHC Student, Meritain Health, and Aetna insurance, please go to https://headway.co/providers/melissa-hamblet
No insurance? Feel free to contact me and we can get an appointment scheduled. I prefer telephone, as text message and email confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. Or, you can reach out at https://www.therapyportal.com/p/seekingbalance/
All new clients will need to complete electronic forms prior to the initial appointment. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me if needed concerning the forms or setting up your portal. Please note that you will not be able to be seen until I receive all completed forms.
Are social workers therapists?
Lots of people ask how social workers are able to work as therapists! Not all social workers are therapists, however many are. In Florida, Licensed Clinical Social Workers have earned at least a master's degree in social work and have completed a minimum of two years of supervised practice, and then have passed the state’s licensure exam to obtain a clinical license. I have worked in various areas of social work, such as hospital social work, medical case management, and in substance abuse residential and intensive outpatient treatment. I found that I particularly enjoyed outpatient therapy, specifically individual and group therapy. My specialization is providing evidence-based therapy to adults .
How can I reach you in between sessions?
If you are experiencing a crisis or emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately. The best way to reach me is by telephone, as I cannot guarantee your confidentiality with text messages or by email.
What hours do you see clients?
My schedule is flexible however I do not work weekends and have limited evening availability. If you need a particular day and time, please call me to see if I may be able to accommodate your needs.
